An OBJ file is a standard 3D image format that can be exported and opened by various 3D image editing programs. OBJ files can contain a three-dimensional object, which includes 3D coordinates, texture maps, polygonal faces, and other object information.
OBJ files may contain references to one or more .MTL files, which are material library files that describe the surface properties of the 3D object. The MTL files may contain references to image files, which are used to texture the 3D object.
without the MTL file, the OBJ file may not be rendered correctly in 3DtoMe or other 3D image editing programs.
When uploading OBJ files to 3DtoMe, you can check to upload an entire folder containing the OBJ file and its associated MTL file and texture maps. This will ensure that the 3D object is rendered correctly in the 3DtoMe workshop.
If you need only to upload the OBJ mesh without the MTL file and texture maps, you can upload the OBJ file alone. The 3DtoMe workshop will render the 3D object with a default material.
Be sure to check also these guidelines:
You can create and optimize your 3D models in 3D modeling software such as Blender, 3DS Max, or Maya before uploading them to 3DtoMe.
